Bishop Jim Adams was consecrated as the fourth Bishop of Western Kansas in 2001. He retired effective this past March
and is currently Vicar of Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Lecanto, FL.

Space is limited, with accommodations at the Convent and Barry House Library.

Daily Holy Eucharist, the Divine Office, meditations and meals will all take place at the convent.

The Retreat begins with Vespers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and ends after lunch on Monday.

Christ the King has been plagued by multiple email outages this past month. We believe the technicians resolved the issues today. CtK Volunteer Day

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!

Despite cooler weather and rain, we had a sunny and extremely helpful group of about 75-100 volunteers come for CtK�s Spring Clean Up Day.We had helpers from all over the greater Capital area and beyond. Some were first time visitors to CtK and others are dear friends who are often here to lend a hand and participate in events at CtK.

What a great success! The lake and lean-to area are now cleared and prepped for summer use. Gardens have been weeded and the grounds look impeccable. Dead trees were downed and split for fire wood and trails were cleared. Windows were washed, and chairs were cleaned. The library is sparkling after a good dusting. New flower beds were rotor tilled and perennials were planted at Beaver Cross and the area around the youth lodges. The tennis courts were cleared for use and even the horses got a new corral.

On behalf of all CtK Staff, thank each and everyone who came and for all that you did to help us and for being such cheerful givers! God's blessings on you.

A message from Father Nigel

Lynn took me to the hospital today.... the trach just fell out which was great, the feeding tube was a different matter! The surgeon and two techs were very funny...it seems I was the first to have H1N1 at that hospital so I seemed to have had some status...They have paid attention to my case to help others. The doctors were so very funny.... after the trach just fell out he said let me see the feeding tube, and as I was lifting my shirt he just grabbed it and with a flick of his wrist pulled it out... and I made a very strange noise as my throat was open... after the pain subsided we all laughed.

We then went to visit the ICU where I was for so long. The nurses were in tears as they met me.. OK so was I. It was so very moving. I had a chance to thank one of the three doctors who saved my life. That was so moving. I had a peek into Room 1 where I was in a coma and then Room 8 where I recovered. They had 2 more patients with H1N1 in ICU and told me another one, a man of 51 died of it last week. I am so very blessed to be alive. God is amazing... this continues to be an amazing journey.

After the hospital today we went to the SLC. It is Tuesday so there were over 100 people having lunch. As I came in, on my wheel chair, I got a standing ovation with many cheers... more tears... the outpouring of love was overwhelming. Just amazing to see such genuine friendship and love. It has been a blessed day. So now I only have oxygen when I need it. I had a lot of anxiety over the removal of the feeding tube so I feel GREAT today.... now that is all behind me.... thanks be to God. Oh how good it is to be alive... I fell like a different man... Jesus you ARE the healer - of this I have no doubt at all.

The trach surgeon said "you know you must have high connections" as he looked at the ceiling... referring to God. Today has been a deeply moving day.

"I Resolve to Help My Children Grow Closer to God" - Beaver Cross Youth Ministry, a ministry of The Episcopal Diocese of Albany and CtK, runs multiple youth retreats and a summer camp. Coming up soon will be Our Junior and Senior SonShine Winter Retreats and Summer Camp registration. All of our retreats and our camp are Christ centered and focus on Building Christian Community. Our newly established King's Kids Childcare Center and After School Youth Group will give your children quality care and Christian education throughout the year.

Father Nigel Mumford Updates

Father Nigel Mumford, Director of Healing Ministries, has been hospitalized with atypical pneumonia. The Center is receiving hundreds of correspondence daily seeking updates on his condition. To help keep everyone informed, the Diocese will be posting an update daily. Please visit www.albanydiocese.org for updates.

Your continued prayers are certainly appreciated. Lynn and the family are eternally grateful for your prayers. However they have been overwhelmed with visitors and phone calls. For the sake of the family we ask that you please do not make hospital visits or try to contact them by telephone. The best thing for you to do is continue to lift up Father Nigel in prayer.

Lectures in Liturgical Theology
Tuesdays: November 3, 10, 2009
1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Convent
The Sisters of St. Mary are sponsoring a class in Liturgical Theology with lectures by Associate Dr. Dan Herzog, retired Bishop of the Diocese of Albany, at 1:30 p.m. on selected Tuesdays this fall. The class is intended to present, not the usual teachings on colors and seasons, but the underlying traditions, history and meaning behind why we do what we do in Anglican worship. The sisters routinely gather together for study, and this lecture series opens one of their classes to the larger diocese and public. Topics include the Divine Office, the Sacraments, the Year of Grace as Reflected in Feasts and Seasons, Bridging the Centuries--the First through the Twenty-first, Monastic vs. Cathedral Styles in Worship, the Reform, popular piety, Churches of the East and West, the Liturgies of Holy Week and Easter and Lectio Divina. There will be a break during Advent and Christmas with further classes resuming in January.

Top of the World - Volunteer Work at CtK

Longtime volunteers of CtK worked long and hard preparing for a wedding that took place on the "top of the world" this past weekend. To the left is a photo of them painting a gazebo that overlooks the gorgeous grounds of CtK and beyond. The volunteer team, led by Dave Reutsch spent the weeks before the wedding preparing the scene for a picture perfect wedding. The grounds were manicured, flowers were planted and the gazebo was ready with a fresh coat of paint. God blessed the day with gorgeous weather! Thanks to Dave and his team for working so hard to be sure the wedding setting was perfect!

Encouraged By God 2009 Challenge Grant Update

Dear Friends of CtK,

We are well on our way to meeting the total amount of $30.000 for our Encouraged by God, matching grant. Thank you to all who have contributed, to all who are still contributing and to those of you still planning on contributing to this challenge. We have until October 2009 to meet the goal. When we reach our goal we will have raised a total of $60,000 for Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. We are praying that we will exceed our goal and would greatly appreciate your prayers for our success.

The money will be used for supporting the ministries of CtK including: a web-based interactive cataloging system in the Library for people to access all our resources on-line, a year round Christian day care center for the community, staff and Center guests and several retreat programs for men, women, and families. Please prayerfully consider your ability to partner on the challenge grant. Every gift, regardless of size matters! The greatest blessing we can bestow on the Kingdom of God, is to give back from the abundance of what the Lord has provided in our lives and that gift is to love one another as He first loved us. The Upper Room - Movie Night

The Upper Room - young adult group will meet this Friday, March 20th in the Great Room of the King's Inn for a movie night. Come enjoy a relaxing time of fellowship. The movie will begin at 7 p.m. For more information please call Lilli Ana at 518-692-9550 x 403.

Going to the Dogs

On February 28th CtK held the second presentation in the series "Going to the Dogs". During the program representatives from the Department of Environmental Conservation shared how they train dogs for use in their agency and others. Many came and enjoyed the demonstration.

On March 28th CtK will present the final portion of the series and will welcome Brother Christopher of New Skete Monastery in Cambridge. Brother Christopher will share how to use dogs in therapy.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 12 noon. There is no charge for the program.

For those interested a buffet lunch will be served at 12 noon in the Trinity Dining Hall. For reservations call the Front Desk at 518-692-9550.

King's Quilters Help the Homeless

The CtK King's Quilters met on February 28th to create "Covers of Love", which are sleeping bags for the homeless made of blankets, sheets and old neckties. The ties make it easy to roll up and carry the sleeping bag from place to place. The quilts were made with donated material and sewn by the group of ladies pictured on the right.

Crown Ministies Informational Meeting

St. Paul's Episcopal Church invites the community to an introduction of the Crown Financial Study, Monday, February 23rd at 7pm at the Christ the King Spiritual life Center, 575 Burton Road in the Welcome Center. Even in these hard economic times, answers can be found for individuals and families on how to manage their finances. The Biblical Financial Study for Life Group is a 10 week in-depth study of what Scripture teaches about money and possessions. Life Group Members have confirmed that marriages are being strengthened and individuals are finding their way out of debt. They are also becoming consistent savers, generous givers, and prudent consumers. Most importantly, people are entering into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ as they learn to apply His Word. Groups meet for 2 hours every week and meetings include Scripture memorization and interactive discussions. In a 2004 survey of Crown small group study graduates throughout the U.S., participants reported dramatic increases in saving and giving and dramatic reductions in debt. The results of this latest survey were similar to those of other Crown graduate surveys in the past. Recent graduates of Crown will be on hand to give real life testimony on how Crown has changed their life as well as answer any questions the public may. For more information, please contact Fr. Family Dinner

Thank you to all the staff who helped make the first family dinner a wonderful evening. Despite the snow many came out to enjoy a wonderful italian meal prepared by Chef Bill and his kitchen staff. We look forward to the next Family Dinner in March!

Family Dinner - Wednesday, February 18th

CtKwill host a Family Spaghetti Dinner from 5-7 p.m. While at dinner we hope you'll become better aquainted with CtK and learn about all of the programs and activities offered here at the center. We'll be serving the dinner buffet style and it will include a fresh salad bar, spaghetti and meatballs, fettuccine Alfredo, cheese bread and scrumptious cookies for dessert. We also have a full beverage station including a variety of juices, iced tea, lemonade, milk, coffee and tea. We hope you an your family will join us!

Adults are $10.95 plus tax, Children 6-12 are $4.95 plus tax and children 5 and under are free.

Married couples are invited to the 1809 Valentine's Day Special in honor of the 200th Annivesary of Greenwich, New York. Festive Weekend Coming Up!

Christ the King has been decorated for the Christmas season, thanks to many volunteers who helped this past Saturday. Everyone is invited to come and see the beautiful decorations around the center! We have two events scheduled for this weekend to welcome in the holiday season. First on, December 6th, families are welcome to attend the St. Nicholas Day Party from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and on December 7th singer Paul Gibbs will perform Christmas favorites in the CtK Chapel from 2-4 p.m. We hope to see you! Confirmation Retreat

A Confirmation Retreat will be held October 3 - 5 at Christ the King. The program is designed for youth ages 13 - 18 who are beginning the process of confirmation. Youth ministers, clergy or mentors are required to attend with their youth. This weekend retreat will introduce youth to the sacrament of Confirmation and help them develop their relationship with God. Spots are limited to 45 on this retreat. Dinner Theater Saturday September 20th

That's not all! Christ the King is excited to present Act 4 Him in a Dinner Theater on Saturday, September 20 at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $25 per person and must be purchased ahead. Last month, we were blessed to have Act 4 Him present a moving dramatic portrayal of the Gospel of John at our Tuesday Healing Service. Act 4 Him is Matthew and Tina Zawisza, a husband-and-wife traveling ministry team who seek to bring the Gospel to life and help others find a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Don't Miss the First CtK Art Club & Friends Art Show!

Join us this weekend for the first-ever Christ the King Art Show, featuring over 130 works by more than 30 local artists.

Exhibitors include past Art Club presenters Frank Vurraro, Beverly Wirth, Susan Reynolds, Sister Catherine Clare of the Community of St. Mary, Jane Nichols Bates, Sherry Walkup, Julie Rapelje, Michelle Galo, Virginia McNeice, Rowland Sinnamon, Kristine Domenichini, Leslie Peck, and Charlene Leary, as well as many Art Club members and friends.

Tonight's opening reception is from 5-8 pm with refreshments in the Welcome Center lobby. The closing reception will be held tomorrow from 2-4 pm with refreshments and entertainment.

You are also welcome to stop in anytime in between to view the artwork on display in the Welcome Center.

Christ the King Welcomes Tour of the Battenkill Teams

Cycling racers in the Tour of the Battenkill will be staying at CtK's Beaver Cross Camp this week. CtK is pleased to be a sponsor of this year's tour and welcomes the teams that are coming to race.

Happy Easter from Christ the King!

On Saturday we held our annual Easter Egg Hunt, attended by over a dozen families. Around fifty kids hunted for eggs and treats, frosted cookies, made crafts, and had their faces painted.

Celebrate Holy Week and Easter with Christ the King

You are invited to join us at CtK as we celebrate Holy Week.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be holding our regularly scheduled Healing and Soaking Prayer services.

On Thursday, March 20 at 5:00 pm, there will be a Foot-Washing Service held at St. Mary's Convent. In this service we remember Jesus washing the feet of His disciples in the Gospel of John, chapter 13. "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." (John 13:14-15)

On Friday, March 21 at 2:30 pm, we will observe the Stations of the Cross at the CtK Chapel. This traditional service follows the path of Christ in His passion and death. Each station is accompanied by a reading, prayer, and reflection. The Stations of the Cross are a powerful way to reflect on the sacrifice of our Lord.

On Saturday, March 22 at 10:00 am, we will have an Easter Egg Hunt for kids and families. There will be games, crafts, treats, face painting, and of course, eggs to find! There is no charge, but please RSVP to Shirley at (518) 692-9550 x103.

At 7:30 pm on Saturday, we will hold an Easter Vigil service at St. Mary's Convent.

On Easter Sunday (March 23), you are invited to join us at CtK for an Easter Sunrise Service beginning at 5:30 am. The Lighting of the First Fire will take place outside, weather permitting. The service will be followed by a Breakfast Brunch at the Welcome Center. Reservations are required; please call (518) 692-9550. The cost for the brunch is $12.00 for adults, $6.00 for children six years to twelve, and free for children under five.

Welcome Home Initiative Retreat

It's not too late to sign up for this month's Welcome Home Initiative Retreat, held March 17-19 at Christ the King. WHI is a program for members of the Armed Forces and their families. Its mission is to provide resources for healing to those who have suffered trauma in combat, be it physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual.

The three-day retreat includes:

Opportunities for Reflection and Healing Prayer

King's Quilters Quilt for St. Margaret's Children

The King's Quilters have been hard at work again, this time making personalized quilts for children at St. Margaret's Center, a long-term care facility. This weekend, twelve ladies gathered at CtK for an overnight retreat to work on this ongoing project--and completed fifteen quilts! These ladies donated their time, talent and supplies to make these quilts, which were blessed at our Healing Service this Tuesday.

This Friday we celebrated the Feast of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. We enjoyed a delicious supper of lamb, some Scottish lore, and the music of the Taconic Pipe Band:

Brotherhood of St. Andrew Donates Sidewalk Plow

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew at Calvary Church, Burnt Hills, donated this beautiful new sidewalk plow to CtK to help us keep our walkways clear in the winter:

The Brotherhood raised funds for the plow by selling fire wood cut at CtK and by powerwashing houses and decks. Thank you, Brothers, for your hard work and generosity!

Healing Conference with Canon J.John

This past weekend, nearly two hundred people came to CtK for the semi-annual Healing Conference, with guest speaker Canon J.John, a well-known speaker, author, and evangelist from the UK. Gail Albright and Mark Kelso led us in worship.

Canon J.John's friendly demeanor put listeners at ease, and his humorous delivery had everyone in stitches. At the same time his message was unmistakably powerful. He spoke about what it means to be a Christian, how we live our everyday lives while striving to follow Jesus, and how we can share our faith with others.

Thank you to all who attended the conference. Special thanks to everyone who helped to make the conference happen, to our musicians Gail and Mark, and to Canon J.John for traveling so far to be here with us and share his passion for Christ.

'Stained Glass' Quilt Made For CtK

A talented group of designers and quilters have made an exquisite full-size quilt for Christ the King. The quilt design is based on a stained glass window at Christ Episcopal Church in Walton, NY.

This beautiful quilt is the handiwork of Laura Miller, Larry Miller, Cathy Crosby, Charlie Amato, Joan Amato, Peg Haley, Jean Mead, and Phyllis Williams. The quilt embodies 739 hours of work from conception to completion.

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for this lovely and unique gift.

New Quilts for The King's Inn

A group of quilters led by Judy Heffern have made twenty-six quilts for The King's Inn. These cozy lap quilts are perfect for curling up in a rocking chair with a cup of tea on a winter evening.

At this Tuesday's Healing Service, the quilts were blessed by the quilters and the prayer team.

You Gotta Hear This... Again!

On August 3, 2007, "You Gotta Hear This!" an ecclectic musical group led by Steven Marking, came to CtK and blessed us with a delightful evening of music.

Didn't get to hear Steven and the band? Heard them and want more? You're in luck! "You Gotta Hear This!" will return to CtK for another performance on Saturday, September 29. Mark your calendars!

Food Network features The Ice Cream Man at CtK

The Food Network's Throwdown with Bobby Flay visited CtK today to feature The Ice Cream Man, a favorite summer stop in Greenwich, NY. The Beaver Cross campers and staff enjoyed some delicious treats from The Ice Cream Man.

Thanks to Bobby and the Food Network, and especially to Julie and The Ice Cream Man staff for a unforgettable time!

Bolivia Mission Team Volunteers at CtK

We were blessed to have with us this weekend the Bolivia Mission Team, training for their upcoming trip and doing some volunteer work around the Center. The team helped to clean up The King's Inn, installed a planter, did some landscaping, and topped it all off with a team-building session on the High Ropes Course.

Thank you, Mission Team, for all your hard work! We pray God's blessings upon your mission to Bolivia.

Volunteers Needed!

Construction of The King's Inn is nearing completion! We need you to help get it ready for guests.

There are three ways you can help...

Volunteer Workdays June 27 and 28 from 9am to 4pm. One crew will work on cleaning rooms and setting up beds and furniture. Another will work on landscaping including spreading and seeding topsoil.

Furniture Finishers. If you have some experience with a shellac brush and an eye for detail, come help finish the hundred plus pieces of furniture ready for the Inn. This has already started, and your help is welcome immediately anytime of the day or night.

There is Much To Do beyond Volunteer Days and Furniture Finishers. Make some time to ask how you can help The King's Inn.

Trees Safely Down at Beaver Cross

Brotherhood of St. Andrew members Bob Carson, Bob Breese, Dave Stender, and Dave Ruetsch safely took down three very dead pine trees at Beaver Cross on Wednesday. Thank you, gentlemen, for all your work!

Dedication of the Merchant Marine Memorial

On Wednesday, June 6 we gathered at St. Patrick's Pavilion to dedicate a memorial to those American Merchant Seamen who served their country during World War II, and in memory of those men who died in the service of the Merchant Marines. Thanks to Bob and Arline King of Trinity Church, Plattsburgh for offering this memorial in honor of those who served our country.

Thanks also to the Dennis A. Roland Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans for leading us in this ceremony, and for donating to the Barry House Library A Careless Word... Needless Sinking: A history of the tremendous losses in ships and men suffered by the U.S. Merchant Marine during World War II 1941-1946. Thanks to the Honor Guard from American Legion Post 278 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. And thanks to everyone who joined us for the Dedication.

Greenwich Family Fun Day
This Sunday we are delighted to welcome local families to our Family Fun Day! There will be a cookout at St. Patrick's Pavilion by the pond, and a variety of fun outdoor activities for people of all ages. Beaver Cross Camp will be open for tours and some exciting challenges on the High Ropes Course. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday for some good food and fun!

Easter Egg Hunt at CtK

Kids and families from all over the area gathered at CtK on Holy Saturday for an Easter Egg Hunt. With Easter baskets, arts and crafts, lots of eggs to find, and some sweet treats, a good time was had by all.
